The next step is the transmission. I pulled the plugs and checked the magnets. They had a fair amount of material on them. Combined with the grinding I get going into 3rd gear, I think this is the end of the racing transmission that came with the car.

The transmission was also solid mounted since this was a drag car. That is not recommended for street operation. The solid 'U' shaped yoke shown below must be replaced and a solid mount toward the front of the transmission must be cut out. Gene Berg sells a shock mounted version of the front mount that does the same job and is usable on the street. I'll get that later.
